Driver ends up in ditch after missing turn
Staff Report

A Fort Riley man was injured some time overnight when his dark purple Honda Accord slipped over the embankment near the intersection of Limerick Road and Military Trail Road adjacent to U.S. 24, officials said today.
The man, whose name was not being released at press time, reportedly received minor head injuries and was taken to Irwin Army Hospital on Fort Riley by Riley County EMS. The Blue Township Fire Department and the Pottawatomie County Sheriff's office assisted.

Emergency personnel were not sure, but speculated that the man may have spent several hours in the ditch adjacent to the highway, because the mud in the area was dry this morning where the car skidded. He was conscious when he was taken at about noon from the scene.

Blue Township Assistant Fire Chief John Best said the man's injuries were not life-threatening. Emergency personnel believe the car was traveling west on Military Trail Road and that the driver had missed the turn right onto Limerick Road to access the highway, but they could not confirm that. The car itself, which carried Geary County license tags PUP 182, did not appear to have major damage and was upright in the ditch, though barely visible from nearby roads because of the tall grass.

The Pott County sheriff's department is investigating the accident.
